After restart all mail accounts are gone -- HELP!
Please if someone can help me I'd really really appreciate it. Here's what happened. I went to "wake" my MacBook Pro from sleep by lifting the screen up and it wouldn't wake (this sometimes happens i don't know why). I pressed all the buttons to try and wake it. Finally I tried to turn it off then on again. When after the restart I went to open my mail program and there was nothing there. It kept asking me for the password to some .Mac acct that I don't have. (i did the trial, hence the acct, but the trial expired) But my other mail accts are gone. I tried using Disk Utility, but the button for repair is not click-able, but after attempting to run the "verify disk" it had to quit saying:
Verifying volume “Macintosh HD”
Checking HFS Plus volume.
Checking Extents Overflow file.
Checking Catalog file.
Checking multi-linked files.
Checking Catalog hierarchy.
Checking Extended Attributes file.
Checking volume bitmap.
Checking volume information.
Volume Header needs minor repair
The volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired.
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
1 HFS volume checked
Volume needs repair
I need some help. Anyone?????
macbook pro Mac OS X (10.4.7)
With the Tiger install disc #1 inserted, select restart for a computer restart and during the restart process, press and hold the "C" key until the computer boots from the install disc.
This can take 20-30 seconds or maybe longer so be patient.
At the first screen after booting from the Tiger install disc, select your language.
At the next screen or prompt, navigate to Disk Utility via the Installer menu bar.
Select Macintosh HD in the drives and volumes window and under the First Aid tab, select Repair.
If any problems are reported and successfully repaired, run repair again until no problems are reported.
When finished, quit Disk Utility and the focus returns to the installer.
Quit the installer and you will be prompted to restart the computer.
